Police Observation Devices (PODs) can be found throughout many majority black and brown working-class neighborhoods in Chicago. Usually, these boxes are mounted with cameras capable of collecting visual and biometric data in real-time. This version does away with the camera and has four LED party strobe lights mounted to the bottom. This sculpture was the focal point of a participatory performance event in which performers danced to their own music wearing headphones. Performers also take part in the recreation of the experience by contributing their cell phone video footage, an inversion of the typical effects of the formerly panoptic observation device.
